Anti Social Behaviour

Residents often contact me about anti-social behaviour (ASB). This is an incredibly important issue that impacts our communities.

I want you to know that tackling ASB remains a key priority for me, and I am committed to working with partners to deliver real improvements. Here is what I have been doing to address these concerns:

Meeting with Businesses in Musselburgh

Anti social behaviour on Musselburgh High Street is an issue that is increasingly impacting local communities. It is essential that we find solutions that work for both residents and local businesses.

I have met with businesses on the High Street to better understand the impact that anti social behaviour is having on their day to day operations and on the wider community.

It is vital that we continue to work together and bring the community together to face this challenge, ensuring Musselburgh remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Portobello in Summer Event.

This year, I was pleased to host a “Portobello in Summer” event, bringing together residents, community organisations and local businesses. It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the many events and activities that make Portobello such a vibrant place during the summer months.

Importantly, the event also provided a space to have open and honest discussions about the challenges our community faces, particularly around anti social behaviour during busy periods.

Following this, I met with the police and council representatives to ensure these concerns were heard and acted upon. We discussed practical steps to make Portobello even safer, with a particular focus on the summer season when pressures are highest.

I will continue working closely with our partners to build on this progress and ensure Portobello remains a welcoming and safe place for everyone.

Coffee Mornings

I have hosted coffee mornings across Edinburgh East and Musselburgh, and I always value the opportunity to bring residents together and talk about the many positive aspects of our community.

These gatherings also create an important space to discuss challenges. Residents are able to share their experiences of anti social behaviour and suggest ways we can address the issues they face.

Coffee mornings are a great way to connect the community with elected representatives, ensuring voices are heard and helping to drive meaningful change.

Bonfire Blitz

It was fantastic to see the community come together to clean up Craigmillar and Niddrie ahead of Bonfire Night 2025. Residents, local organisations and businesses all played their part in helping to create a safer environment.

This collective effort was vital in reducing the risk of violence and anti social behaviour in our neighbourhoods. Thanks to the work of community organisations, supermarkets, Police and residents, everyone was able to celebrate Bonfire Night safely.

This is a great example of what can be achieved when the whole community works together.

Alongside speaking directly with residents, community organisations and local businesses, I have been raising these concerns and working collaboratively with Police Scotland, the Council and the Scottish Government.

It is incredibly important that we continue to come together as a wider community to address these issues and deliver lasting solutions.
